We teach an American curriculum from PreK3 through grade 11. We will be adding grade 12 in 2014, and will be graduating our first class with American High School Diplomas in June 2015.
The Lower School accepts students from PreK3 through Grade 5. We offer two language immersion preschools, one taught in English and the other taught in French. Our aim is for all our children to become bilingual in English and French. ELL—English Language Learners—assistance is available for all children who need it. Children have special lessons in French, PE, Library, and Computers, while Music, Drama, and Art are integrated into the classroom.
In the Upper School, grades 6-12, we teach a core curriculum of English, Social Studies, Math, Science, and French. In addition, students have special classes in PE, Art, Music, Drama, and Computers. Students in grades 11 and 12 are enrolled in AP (Advanced Placement) courses, and can also choose from a variety of electives.
Our Student Council is very active in arranging school social, academic, and community service events. Film nights for the Lower School and dances for the Upper School are always popular.
Our boys’ and girls’ competitive sports teams in volleyball, basketball, and soccer participate in matches and tournaments with other international schools as part of the West African International Schools Activities League (WAISAL). We also feature extracurricular sports, including track and field, basketball, and soccer. At ASD, we offer a wide variety of after-school activities such as chess club, Tai Kwon Do, gardening club, piano lessons, and yearbook, to name just a few.
Through our Community Service program, we support a local orphanage with service and donations of food, clothes, and school supplies.
