Founded in 1978, the American School of Douala (ASD) is an independent coeducational, non-sectarian school, which provides an English language educational program from pre-school through tenth grade.
The academic year is divided into quarters with each quarter having forty-five days. The total number of teaching days is 180.

A culturally diverse student body and faculty promote cross-cultural relations and exchanges which enrich and expand global sensitivity and perspective. This global awareness among the student body encourages the development of responsible, caring citizens.

A nine-member Board of Governors directs the business affairs of the school. The board meets monthly and encourages the presence and participation of teachers and parents as non-voting observers.
