Founded in 1978, the American School of Douala (ASD) is an independent, co-educational,
non-sectarian school which provides a high-quality education through the American
curriculum. Instruction is in English with Preschool programs taught in both French
and English. The academic year consists of four quarters of 45 days each for a total
of 180 school days.
A culturally diverse student body and faculty promote cross-cultural relations and
exchanges which enrich and expand global sensitivity and perspective. This global
awareness among the student body encourages the development of responsible, caring
citizens.
The staff of the American School of Douala are highly qualified and experienced
teachers who come from the United States, Cameroon, and other countries all over
the world. In the lower school, each class benefits from a class teacher as well
as an assistant. There are specialist teachers for French, Computers, Music, Art,
PE, Drama, ESL, and Library.
A nine-member elected Board of Governors guides the school. The Board meets monthly
and encourages the presence and participation of parents and teachers as non-voting
observers.
