I am pleased to welcome you to the American School of Douala (ASD) website. We are a small PreK3- grade 10 school of approximately 120 students representing 21 nationalities and a multi-national teaching staff of 22. ASD strives to develop students that will be competitive, self-confident, compassionate, and positively contribute to our global community. ASD provides a supportive, multi-cultural environment with a high-standard American curriculum encouraging students to reach their maximum potential. Our program follows an American-style curriculum with all instruction in English, and we offer an extensive French language program for grade-school students 5 hours a week. Small class size enables teachers to get to know all our students, helping us recognize individual strengths and weaknesses in our goal to continuously improve student learning. The staff, board of governors, and PTA work hard at offering many multi-cultural activities, such as Cameroon week and International day, that help students build knowledge of our host country, as well as a global perspective. The ASD community is more like a family than a student body. It is a caring and warm learning environment where students want to stay, even after the end of the school day.

We are starting the 2009/2010 school year in a new building that was constructed over the last year. The new building is approximately 4000 square meters (44 000 sq feet) and houses 20 classrooms, a modern media center, WiFi throughout the building, an auditorium, playground, soccer field, running track, and a fully equipped, covered gymnasium.

This year the American School of Douala is proud to be undertaking our self-study for accreditation with Middle States Association.
